Remove the radio
Remove the centre panel around the radio using a plastic pry tool. On Subaru models (Impreza, Forester, Legacy) there are clip connections and sometimes Torx screws behind the trim ring. Slide the radio forward.

Read the serial number
The serial number on the label on the side or top of the radio usually starts with "AP" or another prefix (e.g. AP12345). Note it in full, including all letters and digits.
