Remove the radio
On the Smart ForTwo (450/451) the radio is accessible by unclipping the centre console panel. For the Roadster use DIN extraction tools. ForFour models have a Torx screw under the panel.

Read the serial number
The serial number is on the label on the side or top of the radio. Smart mainly uses Becker or Alpine radios shared with Mercedes (BE/AL/BP prefix). Note it down in full.
