Ford 5000 RDS Radio Code Guide

The Ford 5000 RDS (and the 5000 RDS EON) is the higher-spec cassette radio of the late 1990s, fitted to the Mondeo, Focus Mk1, Cougar and Transit. Like its siblings the 4000 RDS and 6000 CD, it uses the classic Ford keycode system with an M-serial.

Getting the serial on the display

1. Switch the radio on so CODE is shown.
2. Press and hold presets 2 and 6 together for a few seconds.
3. If supported, the M-serial appears (e.g. M123456) — note it exactly.

No serial on the display? Remove the unit with four release keys — the serial is on the label. Then order your Ford radio code.

Entering the code

1. Display shows CODE.
2. Preset 1 sets the first digit, presets 2–4 the rest.
3. Hold preset 5 to confirm — the radio unlocks immediately.

Frequently asked questions

What does EON mean on my display?

Enhanced Other Networks — a traffic-info feature of the RDS system. It has nothing to do with the code; the procedure is identical with or without EON.

How many attempts do I have?

Ten in total over the unit's lifetime. The display counts them; at ten the radio hard-locks and only a bench unlock helps. Always double-check before confirming.

Can I swap in a 6000 CD and keep my code?

No — the code belongs to the unit, not the car. A different unit needs the code belonging to its own serial.
