Delphi Grundig Radio Code
Delphi and Grundig are two OEM electronics suppliers whose head units appear across a wide range of European vehicles. Delphi (formerly part of General Motors) is the primary supplier behind many Opel/Vauxhall factory radios, while Grundig contributed to earlier VW group and Opel units. If your radio is locked and the unit carries Delphi or Grundig branding — or you drive an Opel, Vauxhall, or older VW group car — this guide explains the serial number location and unlock process.
Which Vehicles Use Delphi or Grundig OEM Radios?
Delphi
- Opel/Vauxhall — Corsa C/D, Astra H/J/K, Zafira B, Agila A/B, Meriva A/B, Karl — CD 30, CD 300, CD 400, Navi 600/900, DVD 90 — supplied as Delphi, Blaupunkt/Delphi, or Delco/Blaupunkt
- Fiat group — some Punto and Doblo units have Delphi origin alongside Continental/Blaupunkt units
- Renault — Delphi contributed to some early Philips/Blaupunkt-era units in Mégane I and Clio II
Grundig
- Volkswagen — Alpha, Beta, Gamma series (Golf III/IV era), Concert (pre-Bosch), some Passat B5 units — Grundig/Bosch/Blaupunkt mix, all with VWZ serial format
- Škoda — early Octavia I (1U), Fabia I — Bosch/Grundig units
- Opel — CD 30 / CC 30 units in Astra G/H era carry Grundig-derived hardware under the Blaupunkt brand

Serial Number Format
- Opel/Vauxhall Delphi units: Serial beginning with BE or BP on a sticker on the unit top/side casing
- VW Grundig units: 14-character VWZ serial — same format as all VW group radios
- Fiat Delphi units: Numeric serial on label, sometimes with a BP prefix
How to Find the Serial Number
- Opel/Vauxhall CD 30 / CD 300: Remove the unit with DIN keys. The BE or BP serial is on a sticker on the top of the unit. Some CD 300 / CD 400 units also display the serial via a button hold — press and hold presets 1 and 4 simultaneously with ignition on.
- VW Grundig units: Press and hold presets 1 and 6 simultaneously with the ignition on and the unit in SAFE mode to scroll the VWZ serial on-screen.
- Fiat Delphi: Use DIN keys to extract the unit; the serial is on the casing label.
How to Enter the Code
- Opel/Vauxhall CD 30 / CD 300 / CD 400: Press preset buttons 1–4 to select each digit of the code; then press and hold button 4 (or the OK/confirm button on newer units) to confirm the full code.
- VW Alpha / Beta / Gamma / Concert (Grundig): Preset buttons 1–4 cycle each digit; the seek button advances position; hold to confirm.
- Fiat OEM (Delphi): Preset buttons 1–4; hold the last button to confirm.
| Brand | Radio Series | OEM Supplier | Serial Prefix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opel/Vauxhall | CD 30 / CD 300 / CD 400 | Delphi / Blaupunkt/Delphi | BE / BP |
| Opel/Vauxhall | Navi 600 / DVD 90 | Delphi | BE / BP |
| Volkswagen | Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Concert | Grundig / Bosch | VWZ (14 chars) |
| Škoda | RCD 200 (early) | Grundig / Bosch | VWZ / SKZ |
| Fiat | OEM CD | Delphi / Continental | Numeric / BP |
Troubleshooting
- Opel shows SAFE after entry: If the code is entered incorrectly on a Delphi unit, the display typically shows a temporary lock (30–60 minutes). Switch the ignition off for the required period before retrying.
- VW Grundig shows SAFE 1000 / WAIT: On VWZ-serial Grundig units, the VAG SAFE lockout logic applies — leave the ignition on for one hour until the counter reaches zero.
- BE prefix versus BP prefix: Both appear on Opel/Vauxhall units. BE serials are more common on Blaupunkt-origin units; BP is shared with Blaupunkt VAG units. Include the full prefix when submitting your serial for a code.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Delphi the same as Delco?
Delco was a General Motors brand that became part of Delphi when GM spun off its components division in 1999. Some older Vauxhall/Opel radios carry the Delco name — typically alongside Blaupunkt branding. For code purposes, treat these as Delphi units and use the BE/BP serial.
My Vauxhall Corsa D radio shows a four-digit blank — is that the code prompt?
Yes. The four-digit display with dashes is the code entry prompt on Delphi/Blaupunkt CD 30 units. Enter the digits using presets 1–4 and confirm. If the display instead shows OFF or SAFE, press any preset button once to activate the entry mode.
Can I retrieve the BE serial without removing the Opel radio?
Some Opel CD 300 and CD 400 units support an on-screen serial display — hold presets 1 and 4 simultaneously with ignition on. Not all models support this shortcut, in which case DIN key removal is necessary.
My VW Golf III has an old Grundig radio — can I still get the code?
Yes. Grundig-built VW units use the standard VWZ serial format and the codes are supported through the standard lookup. The Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Concert model names all use the same underlying VAG serial-based system.
What if my Opel Astra J shows Navi 600 and not CD 30 — is the code process different?
The Navi 600 is a later Delphi/Blaupunkt unit but still uses a BE/BP serial on the casing and the same preset-based entry method. The process at radiocodelookup.com covers both the basic CD 30 and the navigated variants.
