Peugeot RD45 Radio Code
The Peugeot RD45 replaced the older RD4 from around 2009 onwards and brought Bluetooth audio streaming to PSA Group's compact hatchbacks and estates. If your 208, 308 or 508 is showing CODE after a battery change or flat, the unlock process is quick — you need the serial number printed on the unit's C7 barcode label or retrievable via the preset-button method, and then four digits entered on the fascia buttons.
Why the RD45 Locks After a Power Loss
The RD45 monitors its 12-volt permanent supply, just like its predecessor. Any interruption — including a routine battery replacement — triggers the code-lock screen. This is a factory anti-theft precaution. The four-digit unlock code is unique to each unit and is derived from its serial number. Because the RD45 is built by Bosch/Clarion under contract for Peugeot (in the same supply chain shared with Citroën), the serial format follows Peugeot's C7 barcode convention.
Finding the RD45 Serial Number
- Preset button method: Switch the ignition to position II (dashboard lights on, engine off). With the unit displaying CODE, press and hold preset buttons 1 and 4 simultaneously for two to three seconds. The screen cycles through a diagnostic readout and shows the serial. On some 208 and 508 variants, try holding all six preset buttons at once if the 1+4 pair does not respond.
- C7 barcode label: Use DIN extraction keys to slide the unit out. The barcode sticker on the top casing shows the full serial number. Write it down exactly as shown — Peugeot serials are alphanumeric and case-sensitive.
Entering the Code Step by Step
- Confirm the display shows CODE with four dashes or zeroes.
- Press preset button 1 repeatedly to set the first digit.
- Press preset button 2 repeatedly to set the second digit.
- Press preset button 3 repeatedly to set the third digit.
- Press preset button 4 repeatedly to set the fourth digit.
- Press the confirmation button (labelled with an arrow or OK on the fascia, or the fifth preset button on some variants). The display shows OK and the radio resumes.
For your code, visit our Peugeot brand page and enter your serial when prompted.

Troubleshooting
- Display shows WAIT: A wrong code was entered. Leave the ignition in ACC for one hour before trying again.
- Preset buttons do not respond during code entry: Ensure the ignition is in position II (not fully off). Some variants require the engine to have been running briefly before the buttons become active in code-entry mode.
- 1+4 preset trick shows service menu instead of serial: Look for a field labelled SN within the menu and note that value.
- Code appears correct but is rejected: Verify the serial character by character, especially potential confusion between the letter O and the digit 0.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the RD45 use the same code as a Citroën radio of the same type?
No — the code is unique to each individual unit. However, the serial format and entry method are the same for PSA-group radios regardless of whether they are badged Peugeot or Citroën.
Can I enter the code via Bluetooth settings?
No. The code must be entered physically via the fascia preset buttons while the screen shows the CODE prompt.
I bought the car second-hand and there is no code in the documents — what do I do?
Use the preset button method or extract the unit to find the serial, then order the code from our brand page. You do not need the original purchase documentation.
The RD45 makes no sound at all — is that a code issue?
If the display is working normally (showing station names, Bluetooth icon etc.) but there is no audio, the issue is likely an amplifier or wiring fault rather than a code lock. The code lock screen is unmistakeable — it simply shows the word CODE.
Will the code change if I replace the battery again in the future?
No. The code is permanently tied to the unit's serial and does not change. Store it somewhere safe and you will never need to order it again.
