How to enter a car radio code: guide per brand

You have received your radio code — but how do you enter it? The method varies by brand. In this article you will find an overview of the most common methods per car brand.

Renault

1. Turn on the radio. The display shows 0000.
2. Use preset buttons 1 through 4 to set each digit. Button 1 = first digit, button 2 = second digit, etc.
3. Press a button repeatedly to increase the digit.
4. Hold preset button 6 to confirm.

Ford

1. Turn on the radio. The display shows CODE or LOCKED.
2. Use preset buttons 1 through 4 to set each digit.
3. Press button 5 or the arrow key to confirm.

Volkswagen / Audi

1. Turn on the radio. The display shows SAFE.
2. Hold FM and AM simultaneously until 1000 appears.
3. Use preset buttons 1 through 4 to enter the code.
4. Hold FM and AM again to confirm.

Peugeot / Citroen

1. Turn on the radio. The display shows CODE.
2. Use the arrow buttons to set the first digit.
3. Press the > button to move to the next digit.
4. Repeat until all 4 digits are set and confirm.

Opel

1. Turn on the radio. The display shows CODE.
2. Use the volume knob or arrow buttons to set digits.
3. Confirm with the OK button or by pressing the volume knob.

Important: maximum number of attempts

Most car radios lock after 3 to 10 incorrect entry attempts. You must then wait a certain period (usually 30 minutes to 24 hours) before you can try again. Therefore make sure you have the correct code before you start.
